RE: KOA Salt Lake City

We stayed at that KOA this past spring. It was fine. The people there were very nice.
The Temple Square tour van came and picked us up and drove us back when we were finished doing the tourist thing. We had no complaints about that place at all and appreciated all of the kindness. The van driver wouldn't take a tip, told us to buy some ice cream with it and told us a good place to go.
We felt safe and secure, it was clean and we'd do it again.

RE: RV Park Reviews

I like the ones who give a campground low grades because trees (especially in Oregon) interfere with their dish reception.

RE: Dog Free Campgrounds/RV Parks

Dogfree/campground = oxymoron. I thought the whole purpose of camping was being able to enjoy your family and your pets in a natural, wholesome environment.
Maybe what they're looking for is more like a "no pets" trailer park.

RE: Campground(s) Eugene, Oregon

If you mean the one out by Fern Ridge reservoir I think the name of it is Richardson. The county is building a new RV park at Armitage Park (heading out toward Coburg on the McKenzie River) as we speak. I'm not sure if it will be finished in time for your visit.
As for commercial, I keep hearing good things about Deerwood (or something like that), it's pretty central.

RE: Class A / Alcohol ?? for a CHP officer...

In Oregon we have an "open container" law. The way I understand it is that if the container is open it needs to be put away and unavailable to the driver (i.e. in the trunk).

RE: How do you feel: campgrounds that require a "newer" rig?

Eyesore is in the eye of the beholder. I have seen some pretty gaudy, brand new, million dollar rigs botching up some spectacular scenery.

RE: How do you feel: campgrounds that require a "newer" rig?

It's all so sad.
Our first "RV" was a used "jack up" Alaskan pickup camper that we purchased for 600 dollars. After years with a backpack and a tent this was a palace and we maticulously took care of it. It was all we could afford at the time and made for some wonderfully beautiful memories and quality family time. I guess we would have been rejected by this lofty crowd.
Years have passed and we have upgraded through the years, now we have a (totally paid for) rig that is acceptable to these snooty places.
In my opinion "snooty" takes the freedom and the purpose out of camping.
People need to relax.

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

We had our agent add a 1% cash bonus to the selling agent. This makes it based on the sales price and an incentive for the selling agent to get the best offer he feels the buyer will make. However, ours didn't sell due to an extremely high inventory of both new and used homes in our county, so we have taken it off the market for awhile. Will put it back on, probably after the 1st of the year, if the market starts to improve, as we do not have to sell and we won't give it away.
Whoa, isn't that illegal?
I would not be happy if I were a buyer and I found out that the seller was bribing someone who by contract was supposed to be looking out for my best interest (I believe it's called fiduciary responsibility).

The Fort is getting too crowded. I would prefer that you stay somewhere else. :b
I'm with him. You'd probably love the townhouse.

RE: Fort Wilderness dog policy outrageous!!

In my experience Disney is very accommodating and they go out of their way to make things work out, if not today, tomorrow. I'd say hang onto that reservation and quit worrying.
As for the "land of the rat"...wow. Around 30,000 cast members in the Orlando area, some that I know quite personally (one being my daughter) and I can assure you they don't despise the rodent on their paychecks.
That, and I don't know the exact number of Florida resident annual passholders but there is no shortage of them either. I've heard them say "I'm visiting The Rat next weekend" but it's usually in an endearing fashion and on an annual pass.

RE: 11 day trip LA to Oregon and back

December on the coast is a crapshoot however typically you can rely on dry or wet, temp mid 40's and wind.
Storms come and go, some worse than others, some that will keep you hunkered down for a couple of days (wind and/or ice) and some that are just a grey rainy day.
I camp at the coast year round but I'm right here so it's easy for me to jump in when the weather is good and stay home when the weather is bad (although I'm not always that smart).
Short days, long nights in the winter too. The upside are some outstanding waves brought in by the winter storms (lots of drama), camping availability everywhere and cheaper rates. Shore Acres by Coos Bay puts on a great Christmas light display.
If you're not in a hurry it's a cool place to be. You can sit out anything, the weather always changes.
Avoid the heavily wooded parks in any kind of wind storm especially if the ground is really saturated. Last year a ton of trees came down.

RE: 11 day trip LA to Oregon and back

You have some serious things going for you....
A) After Labor Day the kids go to school, there is a big drop in family camping and tourism.
B) You don't have a huge rig which helps in the state parks etc, plus you are very mobile.
C) You are flexible and don't demand hook-ups....another bonus in state parks etc.
D) You are looking primarily for overnights, not extended stays.
I drive a 29ft. class C, camp a lot, and make reservations maybe two, three, times a year at the most and that is only if it's a weekend in the summer and I'm heading for an extremely popular place or want a particular campsite. I went to the coast last weekend, spur of the moment, no reservations, stayed in a nice little private campground walking distance of the beach and didn't go broke or have reservations. I prefer state parks and forest service campgrounds but I don't even bother with them (except the day use areas) on weekends in August. Some of our state parks don't even TAKE reservations (works for me!).
I like the feeling of being on the road, if I hate a place I leave, if I like a place I stay longer. With reservations I feel constrained.
All of our state parks have day use areas. I'd suggest a $35 Oregon coast pass which will open them all up to (state and federal) you for beach access and beautiful places to park and picnic during the day.
Worst case senerio you overnight at a casino RV parking area (free). Could be worse (and you might get lucky!).
Seriously, I'd relax a little. I see a lot of people planning every second of their journeys on this board, I guess that is necessary when time and money are short, I understand that, and also a lot of these people are looking for big spots with hookups for big fifth wheels and stuff. You have none of those issues.
Hope this helps.
The best thing (to me) about the Oregon coast is the air and the smells of the forest. You don't get that driving.
You're going to have a great time.

I'd just go and see where I end up and take it one day at a time, but that's just me.
